We're Here to Answer Your Questions
What kind of services will I need?
That really depends on your business and what stage you're at. Every setup is a bit different. Some people just need help with year-end accounts, others want ongoing support and real-time insights. The easiest way to figure it out is to book a free consultation with us. We’ll chat through where you’re at and let you know exactly what services would suit you best.
What is Making Tax Digital, and will it affect my business?
Making Tax Digital (MTD) is HMRC’s move to digital tax reporting. You’ll need to keep digital records and send updates every quarter using approved software.
It already applies to all VAT-registered businesses, and from 2026, it’ll affect sole traders and landlords earning over £50k, then over £30k in 2027.
We can help you get MTD-ready so you stay compliant and avoid penalties.
What are your tiered service packages all about?
Our tiered packages are designed to help business owners climb the ladder of control by giving you more visibility, confidence, and clarity as your business grows.
Compliance keeps you covered with accurate accounts, avoiding penalties, and saving on tax.
Real-Time gives you live financial data, so you always know how your business is performing. Perfect for better planning and decision-making.
Grow takes things further with tailored systems and insights built around your goals to help you scale smarter.
Not sure which one fits? We’ll talk it through during your free consultation.
Don’t I need a local accountant?
If face-to-face meetings are important to you, then sure, working with someone nearby can make sense.
But what most of our clients really want is an accountant who answers the phone, replies to emails quickly, and actually helps when it matters.
Thanks to cloud accounting, location matters less than ever. We work with businesses all over the UK and still keep things personal, responsive, and easy.
Is having an accountant expensive?
We strongly believe an accountant should add more value than they cost. If we’re not saving you money in tax, penalties, or better decisions, then we’re not doing our job.
We don’t believe in overcharging or bloated fees. By keeping our overheads low, we can offer fair pricing without cutting corners.
This is a core part of how we work: clear, valuable support that actually pays for itself and then some.
We do help clients save tax, but we start by understanding your bigger goals.
For example, if you're planning to apply for a mortgage, showing more profit might be smarter than cutting your tax bill. During COVID, lots of businesses struggled to get support because their profits were reported too low.
That said, we absolutely use all the legal allowances and reliefs available to reduce your tax bill where it makes sense.
More importantly, we help you run your business in real time, which means better planning, smarter decisions, and no nasty surprises in January.
How do I register a new business?
It’s a common misconception that you need to “register a business” to start trading – but that’s not always the case.
If you're a sole trader, you don’t register a business – you just need to register for Self Assessment with HMRC so you can report your income and pay tax on your profits.
If you’d rather trade through a limited company (which is a separate legal entity), then you’ll need to register with Companies House and let HMRC know that the company is trading.
What’s better – a sole trader or a limited company?
This is such a common question we get, and until we speak to you about your personal situation, we can't say for sure.
For example, if you're paying tax at 40%, then it likely would be better to trade as a limited company.
But if you're expecting significant trading losses in your first year, then sole trader is likely the best way forward, as you can carry back those losses against other income in earlier years – which can trigger a tax refund.
Book a free consultation with us and we’ll advise you on the best setup for your circumstances.
Why should I have to fork out for cloud accounting software?
With Making Tax Digital, this is a common question – and the good news is, there are free options out there.
But we strongly believe cloud accounting software is one of the best investments a small business can make. Just like a good accountant, it should save you more than it costs.
It gives you real-time insights, helps you make better decisions, tax plan more effectively, and keeps you in control.
Used properly, it’s an absolute game-changer.
You say you're different from other accountancy firms, but how?
Our background in both accountancy practices and industry businesses has shaped how we work with clients.
Most accountants speak to you once a year. They get everything up to date, but it’s often 9 months after the year has ended. By that point, it’s too late to make real changes.
We do it differently. Your financials are reviewed each month by a chartered accountant. This means accurate data in real time – and how many small businesses can say they’re in that position?
We take more of a management accountant approach, so we can spot weaknesses early, highlight opportunities in real time, and help you make smarter decisions as you go.
Yes, you can, and lots of individuals do. All the information is out there if you know where to look.
The issue is knowing the good information from the bad. Like anything in business such as SEO, social media, or client outreach, we can do it ourselves. But the real question is: does a professional know how to do it better?
The answer is usually yes.
Though there are exceptions, most people find that getting expert help leads to fewer mistakes, less stress, and often better results.
How can I get the best from my accountant?
The client and accountant relationship works best when there’s clear, regular communication. Think of your accountant like someone within your business.
If a team member wasn’t replying to you for three weeks, you’d question whether that relationship was working, and rightly so.
But on the flip side, if you’re ignoring your accountant’s calls or not sending the information they need, you’re only doing your business a disservice.
It’s a two-way street. The more openly and consistently you work together, the more value your accountant can deliver
